Faculty Members Successfully Complete Visiting Academic Exchange at Lincoln University College, Malaysia

Recently, two teachers from Medical School, Yan Jiaqin and Song Xin, successfully completed their three-month academic visiting program at Lincoln University College, Malaysia. This visit marks an important initiative of Shaoxing Vocational & Technical College to further develop the “Belt and Road Silk Road Institute—Yueyi Institute”. The two teachers delivered a series of academic and cultural exchange activities including Yueyi inheritance and TCM cultural experience for participants of Yueyi Institute, effectively boosting the overseas dissemination of traditional Chinese medicine culture.

During their stay, the two teachers took an in-depth part in the construction of the TCM Training Laboratory at Lincoln University College, improving the hardware foundation of the Sino-Malaysia Yueyi Institute and providing solid support for TCM practical teaching, academic research and cultural experience activities.

They actively promoted the international application of the curriculum standard forAppropriate Traditional Chinese Medicine Techniques. Covering core modules such as tuina, acupuncture, scraping, cupping and auricular point pressing, the standard has established a scientific and systematic framework for the international teaching of TCM appropriate techniques. Recognized and officially adopted by Lincoln University College, the exploration and practice of this international curriculum standard have laid a solid foundation for the promotion of bilingual teaching materials and collaborative curriculum development between the two sides.

To facilitate the overseas spread of Yueyi culture, the two teachers adopted an integrated model of domestic-overseas collaboration and combination of theory and practice. They organized TCM popular science lectures, cultural experience sessions and professional training courses for the Sino-Malaysia Yueyi Institute participants, innovating continuously the overseas communication model of traditional Chinese medicine culture.

Shaoxing Vocational & Technical College also delivered an online special lecture themedApplication of Pediatric Tuina in Preventive Treatment of Pediatric Diseasesto the Sino-Malaysia Yueyi Institute participants. The two teachers guided local students to attend the lecture and offered offline serial courses on pediatric tuina, fully demonstrating the unique value of pediatric tuina in pediatric nursing. While teaching professional knowledge on medicinal herbs, scraping, acupuncture and pediatric tuina, they also held interactive experience activities such as sachet making, scraping workshops and tuina & acupuncture demonstrations. These activities allowed overseas teachers and students to directly experience the profound essence of TCM culture and won high praise from all participants.

The Sino-Malaysia Yueyi Institute is not only an important measure for SXVTC to respond to the national Belt and Road Initiative and promote cultural exchange and mutual learning between civilizations, but also a distinctive brand for spreading fine traditional Chinese medicine culture and carrying out international exchanges. In the future, the College will continue to deepen the connotation construction of the Silk Road College, share TCM culture with countries along the Belt and Road, tell wonderful stories of traditional Chinese medicine in the new era, and build it into an important bond for people-to-people connectivity under the Belt and Road Initiative.
