On the afternoon of April 28, Wang Fei, faculty member of the University of Geneva, together with 15 participants of the Lanting Calligraphy Academy from Switzerland, including Annie Fayolle Dietl, Christine Hurlimann and Raphaël Jaccard, visited Shaoxing Vocational & Technical College and held an on-site exchange with teachers and students majoring in Calligraphy and Painting Art at Yangming School.

Li Xinyang, President of Shaoxing Vocational & Technical College, met with the delegation. He noted that literacy in philosophy, literature and art is indispensable to all-round personal development. The establishment of the calligraphy program at the college aims not only to cultivate application-oriented talents in calligraphy, but also to foster a sound humanistic atmosphere across the campus.

Sun Zaiyuan, teacher of the Calligraphy Major at Yangming School, interpreted the connotation of “Uphold Integrity, Pursue Innovation”in the context of calligraphy art and gave a live demonstration. Afterwards, the Swiss participants picked up writing brushes and began practicing earnestly. After two hours of repeated practice, they created satisfying calligraphy works. In the blooming Li Garden, the 15 Swiss participants jointly displayed a 12-character collaborative piece inscribed: May Art Blossom Prosperously at Shaoxing Vocational & Technical College.

Ms. Raffaella DORIER, one of the participants of the Lanting Calligraphy Academy, is a professional organizational psychologist with over 20 years of working experience. She has served in the banking industry, consulting firms, public institutions and international organizations, and worked long-term at the World Health Organization and the United Nations Office at Geneva. She delivered a wonderful lecture for teachers and students of SXVTC, focusing on occupational psychology and covering workplace psychological issues and psychotherapy.

Prior to the calligraphy exchange, the delegation visited the Shaoxing Arts and Crafts Joint Exhibition held in Qixin Building of SXVTC by Shaoxing Folk Artists Association, Shaoxing Arts and Crafts Industry Association and other institutions.

This marks the second visit of the Lanting Calligraphy Academy participants to our college. Through brush-and-ink interaction and pleasant conversations, they deeply experienced the unique charm of Chinese calligraphy art.
